Day two at TG Live

Posted by The Mole at 12:40 pm on Saturday November 1, 2008

So day two of Top Gear Live is over. And we were there to see it – cos it’s our show, obviously. Anyway, the curtain went down for a second night, Stig wandered backstage with his Scalextric and the boys went to the pub, to make today’s show even better.

And if you’ve got tickets for the remaining performances, lucky you – London and almost all of the Birmingham tickets are now sold out. We don’t want to spoil it for you here, but we thought we’d show you some sneaky backstage shots of yesterday’s action, just to get your Top Gear juices flowing.

As usual, Jeremy, James and Richard were welcomed by a roaring crowd of women, and a few scary-looking hairy blokes too (some had mullets). And while they got the show going, we were hanging out in the paddock, watching the drivers warm up cars, before blasting out into the arena with a shriek of tyre squeal and roar of meaty V8. Or whatever size their engine was (the DBS sounded best, its V12 echoing around the cavernous Earls Court paddock).

When the cars were doing their thing for the audience, Jeremy and James sat backstage surrounded by cigarette packets and cans of Coke.

Then we spotted a dancing girl, and followed her to the arena – dodging powersliding supercars as we nipped across the bit behind the stage (you know the bit where they disappear out of sight? Well, there). As she got busy on top of a giant football, warming up for a very bendy routine, we watched the action on a telly. Then we spotted Oliver – Hammond’s Kadett from the Botswana trip – getting ready to enter the action. See him in the pic? Cute, isn’t he?

Anyway, you’ll just have to watch the show to see what happens next. And we definitely won’t spoil the Hollywood-style ending for you. But expect pyrotechnics, lots of strobey lights and a tame racing driver called Stig (there’s a clue in the picture we snapped at the top of this page).

Then check back here later for more news on the Top Gear Live World Tour. We’re going global, see, and we’ve just had a little chat to Jeremy and Richard to find out how excited they are…

Oh, and don’t forget Top Gear is back on your telly on Sunday night. It’s not live, but it’s just as good.

Extremly jealous of all those with tickets. I sadly had no parental permission and Birmigham is really to far to travel if your 13 and live in Aberdeen, Scotland. Keep the pics and gossip coming as it does ease the pain.

Well I went yesterday and I won’t be going in future. The show was lame and the way the audience was herded about by rude stewards was unacceptable. The car show was way too crowded and too hot. The Sunday Times ‘enclosure’ was a joke – more crowded than the exhibition areas… It was good for a few years but it is now a cash cow…

Far too long was spent watching some weirdo dance troupe…yawn! There was no opportunity to meet the guys either. Gutted :(
All in all, Autosport International was better, and the tickets are only £25!

I went to the MPH Show yesterday, Saturday 6:30 pm.

Well, as they said, a lot of explosions, cool laserlights, cool cars, drifts, Audiance coo, wall,
    …..

was similar to the normal Top-Gear program, but because it was live and we all paid £40 for it, they had to put some stunts, explosions ect to make it worth the money.

How it make me feel? Well, i somehow didn’t feel satisfied. It felt too short, and yeah Clarkson, Hammond were realy comming into the audience and were very near to us all.

I can’t quite put my finger on what it was, that did not make me so excited as when i normaly watch top-gear, they also played the mini-football that was a laugh; but something was missing.

It didn’t feel as long as our normal top-gear on telle, even though it was 30 min. longer ?!

It felt like you just stept in…and in 20 min. everything is over, and you get that feeling of the show being to short.

And even though it wasn’t cheap(actually, cause of hiring the place, explosions, lasers, perfomances ect), it did feeeel cheap.

Maybe the guys should have done less of the fooling around, and do more of the exciting and challenging bids of top-gear.

It surely was better than last year, watching from u-tube, the stage wasn’t lid properly, so many of the actions were left half in the shadow. This year they sortet that problem out.

What negative I felt there too was the seating hight, it was a bit too low, peoples heads are in the way, and the stage appears far shorter that it actualy is.

And I think, now i now what it was, it felt a bit more like a circus that our Top-gear as we know.

    That’s it.

Is it worth paying for it?

    Well the answer,
if you are a rockstar fan, and your heroes are giving a live performance, wouldn’t you come just to see them?

My 2 mates and I have been to MPH at Earls Court the past 3 years now and loved the show in 06 & 07.

But this year we were left feeling disappointed and cheated… the show was filled with glorified adverts, less than average dance routines, and a distinct lack of the usual banter and fun challenges from the TG lads. The Cool Wall and lap of the TG test track was rubbish… it obviously wasn’t controlled by the audience and was boring. And what happened to the 3D effects from previous years?!

Also, we were disappointed to see that once again, the TG boys couldn’t be bothered to come out and say hello to their fans… we have been to Earls Court 3 years in a row; on Saturday afternoon, evening, and now on the Gala night (Thurs) and they have never bothered to show their faces after the show, even to the people that bought Gold tickets and bothered to do the (boring) paddock tour afterwards.

Sorry Jeremy, James and Richard, but we won’t be coming next year, although I will of course still be watching the new series of Top Gear tonight… for FREE from the comfort of our living room!!

I took my oldest son to see 1.30pm show on Saturday and we were really lucky as we has Row A seats. He loved it and I really enjoyed it, BUT, the boys weren’t on an awful lot, there was far too much support stuff and not really enough of the japery that makes TG. (Is this due to Clarkson’s recent crash?) James was on the least, which I found really disappointing, no encore and it’s a shame they didn’t do autographs or a meet and greet in the Paddock tour after. Did manage to see James and Hammond outside their “room” whilst on our tour, and managed to join to get a few pics, but as all the other ladies doing the same were after Hammond’s pic, I will have to have T’Shirt in future stating “I’m not here for Hammond”.

I did enjoy it, but felt that it was too short. In the afternoon the MPH show was dangerously crowded and I did leave early as my son(whose blind in one eye) was getting heavily jostled. Security and Stewards need to be more on the ball.

Would come again, but TG team take a leaf out of John Barrowman’s live show. Entire 1st half totally solo (50 mins ish, 2nd half he was only supported for about 20-25 mins.) This is what the fans want, more of the guys who ARE the show and not a fleet of silly dancing girls and circus tricks.

whoooow, MPH IS a cash cow !!

Before i went to MPH Live 2008 on the just now past Saturday, i didn’t bother calculating the money MPH brings top-gear!

5000 people present at one show, they did 4 shows on Saturday at earlscourt.

    The silver tickets cost £40

    so, 5000 x 4 =20 000 people

    20 000 x £40 = £800 000 !!!!!!!!

That’s enough to buy a Bugatti Veyron, and certanly far more than enough to pay for a hall, pay for ensurance of the exibition halls to keep this posch cars in there, to pay for the performances, pay for health and safety non-sense, for the lazers ……all easy.

I feel robbed to be honest, the show wasn’t that good!

I agree with ‘Mumsy’ (previous poster). My husband and I had platinum tickets so we had the paddock tour, VIP area etc. Unfortunately the car arena was far, far too overcrowded to properly have a look. The VIP area had a lack of seating and when we went to get our meal after the TG performance, they had nothing but veggie lasagne on offer, nowhere to sit to eat anyway and the bar had run out of change so they wanted my husband to pay a fiver for one glass of wine.
The live performance left me with a mixture of feelings – on one hand it was fabulous as I was seated about 3 foot from Hammond and Clarkson when they stopped in the middle of the crowd – got some brilliant close ups of them. But I felt the show was lacking content from the three people we had all come to see. Too much rubbish dancing and drumming. The car football was funny and the driving was good (what there was of it, anyway) but I got the impression the boys were very tired and didn’t have the energy to give more than they did.
There was no signings or photo opportunities or any chance to ask car questions of the guys which was quite disappointing. If the number of tickets had been reduced, maybe there would have been time and space to do this.
Having said that, I will definately still be going next year and I’m still waiting for those elusive tickets to see the show at their hangar.
    Top Gear Rules OK!!

I went to Top Gear Live on saturday and I was a bit disappointed! It was a nice show but it wasn’t Top Gear…
Just cut out the dancing girls and let Jeremy, James and Richard talk about cars and mess about.
    Still love the tv show!!

I went to London On Sat 1st. I agree with the comment about it being not quite as good as last year – the guys werent on enough and there was too much of the scantily clad dancing girls rolling about on a huge ball??!!! Whats all that about!!?? The rest of the show was good – especially when Jeremy and James come into the audience – Jeremy came right along the row behind us and Richard was at the end of our row (about 15 ish seats away) I wish it was the other way around though!! Disappointed that there was no chances to meet the guys 0 I carried books and dvd’s around all day on the off chance that I met them!! The stewards on the Paddock tour ruched us around too (this happened last year at BIrningham too). It takes that long to get out of the arena and into the paddock area that if you are some of the last few in (if you have had Platinum tickets like I had then you are last out as you are furthest away from the doors!) you get hurried round. Maybe the timings of the programmes should be changed slightly so that everyone gets enough time to go around and have a reasonable amount of time to look at the cars?

I am definitely going to go next year, and Id get the VIP tickets again even though there werent enough seats in the area (although we did pretty well and managed to get seats to eat) as you get the best seats in the Live Show. I hope they guys/producers etc of the show take note of the comments on here and have more of the TG Guys/cars and less of the dancing girls Last year was a better show. It would be nice if we had the chance to meet the guys aswell – especially if we have paid for VIP tickets – I know they cant sign everyone’s programmes etc but even if they just came out and said hi from their ‘offices’/wherever it is they go after the show, that would be nice.

    Dancing girls? oh no…
I’ve tickets for Dublin on 28th and the cheapest tickets were €100 (that i can’t afford). Please please boys listen to the comments and cut the dancing girls – we want to see you guys!
p.s. I do now have a disturbing image of you three in dancer costumes – please don’t go down that route!
