This is the news…

Jeremy in the news rehearsalAs you know we’re filming season 13 at the moment, and it got me wondering, what have you guys thought of the news segment over the years? You might think it is all done on the hoof. In fact, there’s a bit of preparation that goes into it, and that all happens on a Tuesday in the main TG office, just next to London’s glittering Westway flyover.Various news cuttings and press releases are laid out on the floor and the presenters arrive bright and early, usually about 9am although every week James forgets this and has to ask someone when he’s meant to be there, so they can begin the process of stalking around the room picking up things that look interesting and trying to think of something entertaining to say about them. Even after 12 series it’s a mildly shambolic process, but one that leads – eventually – to each presenter having a series of notes on what they want to say.

Then they think about it some more and decide to talk about something entirely different. Once their notes are finalised the presenters have to wait until the studio recording on Wednesday to find out whether the audience are even half interested in what they’ve got to say. The good news is that everything seems to go down well.

And there you have it, another TG top secret revealed by The Mole. So what do you think of the news?

I think the news is a good segment because it lets the petrol head audience know what’s gonig on in the car world, but it’s not boring, and it always envolves something we can laugh about!

What’s with all the people whinging about the spelling? You all apparently have enough brains to work out that it’s spelt wrong & what it should read, so what the hell are you complaining about? Christ, some people are never bloody happy. Picky, picky.

i love the news, i think it’s brilliant. one problem…SBS cuts it out! the whole of Top Gear is brilliant, and it would be FANTASTIC if SBS would give us the whole show!!!!

Top Gear is actually the first show on TV where not only can I stand the news, but it’s one of my favourite sections. But honestly, Mr Mole, “another TG top secret revealed”?? Area you serious?? It is so obviously scipted, as the presenters lead each other onto different topics so smoothly and always say “we have a picture of it here”… then it arrives on screen. Did you think we thought it was the use of some amazing telepathy?

“In the name of all that’s holy”, please don’t stop the news segment. There are three reasons I switch off to TG Australia and on to Top Gear, one of which is because its news is witty, hilarious, and strangely addictive. Sadly, however I have to watch the news by YouTube or downloading episodes in ways the BBC would not appreciate. PLEASE PUT TOP GEAR ON BOX SET ALREADY!! …then I can give you my money in exchange instead of stealing.
    Cheers

Yes it’s a pity we can’t see the whole episode here in Australia. Bloody SBS always cutting parts out of the episode, whether it be the news, intros to challenges, or parts of the challenges themselves! I think SBS should air the entire episode. They should be greatful to have one of the most popular shows on the planet. So quit it SBS!!! Or give the show to another channel.

It’s a pity that our SBS One cuts out the good chunks of TG, but other than that, TG is awesome… Don’t just cut out the news part without annoucing that you are, please! :D

It isn’t SBS who cuts portions of the show out – it’s the BBC. They air the full version in England (and other accepted parts of Europe) where they have control over the air time.

However, most other continents where TGUK is aired, shows have to confine to a typical running length of (usually) 30mins, 60mins, 90mins, etc; BBC has to cut portions out that won’t affect the rest of the show AND so that it doesn’t run overtime and ruin international TV stations’ program schedules.

Bottom Line: They do it for a reason…

the news is great but sbs keeps cutting it out, star in a reasonably priced car is a bit boring because it is full of people we dont no. so if sbs want to cut something cut that.

TGUK is SBS’s biggest rating show isn’t it? Why not make it a 90min show & put the adds in. I’ll skip through them with the set top box anyway! PS without downloading illegally I would have no idea who top gear stuntman is!!!

I love the news but it really annoys me that it is nearly always cut out when shown overseas. Yes, it may not be relevant, but it’s the funniest part of the show. Please leave it in.

If the news does have to be cut – how about making sure that the news from every episode is made available on the videos section? – oh hang on, that would mean no-body outside of the UK could watch it…..legally.

There’s so much going on in the world of cars I cant beleive TGA never included a news segment into the show like TGUK!

And I gota say I’ve suggested on this site before that the news should include funny car related emails and guess what……? Sunday nights episode of TGUK (13×7)had half a dozen funny clips which had the audience in stitches! Now why didnt TGA listen to my suggestion? Now it will look like TGA has copied TGUK if they start now. For once TGA could have done it first if they listened!

The News section is good because one of the unique strengths of TG is the interaction between Clarkson, May and Hammond. A three way relationship that succeeded after many, many failures (and I’m not even including TGA). Unfortunately this incredibly valuable resource is under-used, with many segments involving only one or two ingredients. It’s like a G&T without the ice and lemon. Or the tonic. Or gin.

Love the show guys… I have to admit that I am forced to download it as I cannot wait for SBS to get off their arses and show it sooner rather than sometime down the track (yeah pardon the bad pun…)!
One thing I do enjoy is the news… but I must ask has Jeremy been banned from using the internet? Used to love “Now I’ve been on the net and found this…”

You need to tell SBS to get their arses into gear (yes another bad pun!) and stop fiddling with Topgear..show the whole damn thing. But whatever you do… DO NOT ALLOW ANY OTHER AUSSIE CHANNEL TO HAVE TG AS IT WILL END UP SHYTE. SBS has the odd commercial here and there, but give it to Channels 7,9 or 10 and it’ll be 35 minutes of adverts and bugger all TG.

    Keep up the goodwork guys!!
