That’s it for series 13…

Posted by The Mole at 8:48 pm on Monday October 12, 2009

So that’s it for series 13. Seven weeks of telly that our self-confessed ‘glass-half-empty’ exec producer Andy Wilman described in his blog before show one as ‘the same old shit’. In a good way.

But how was it for you? Best series yet? The consensus in the office is that show six was the killer episode – the one with the classic car rally. Dinosaurs, a dwarf, James May with a pretty girl and a bonafide rock god in the studio.

And that put extra pressure on the telly team for tonight. We wanted to go out with a bang so we saved the best guest until last and ended on that epic (but dark) Aston V12 film. There was talk of ending the series as that faded out – no credits, nothing.

What happens now? A little bit of time off for the crew and then we’re straight back into filming for series 14 later in the year. If you want to wade in with your comments for that, now’s your chance… And tell us what you thought of the show, the series, hell, even the weather.

NEWFLASH: Across Australia Tvs were being thrown out of multi-storey building windows, into swimming pools and under the wheels of road trains. Why? Because some silly pommies, not even a week after Holden (HAHA GO HOLDEN) won BATHURST (not BARRRTHURST like a sheep consuming a bratwurst sasauge) and there are some hopping mad Aussie out there.
But apart from that fantastic. I think I speak for Australia when I say we all swooned, wept and drooled pathetically at the sight of the Ute and that noise of the Holden.
    GO BOYS!!!

Excellent work as usual. Was completely taken off guard by the ending of the Series with the piece about the V12 Aston Martin Vantage. Don’t know what I think about that, it left me feeling sort of empty. Like when you don’t get to say goodbye to a beloved goldfish.

The V12 Aston Martin seriously took me by surprise, I didn’t even knew it was the end of the S13 either (stupid me!) but seriously the video of the V12 kinda thought very hard because in the next few years cars like that might stop being made because of the “greenies” complaining (for example) about a a Ferrari doing the speed limit past their house and calling the police for it!

I don’t know, my best bet so far was review that James did a while ago about Honda making a car that runs on Hydrogen…

Think about Hydrogen for a second:

    1. Its everywhere and the Universe is made of 5% of it (THE UNIVERSE, THATS HUGE!!!).
    2. If we can make a V12 Hydrogen engine, maybe the Supercar and Hypercar story might be saved…

    Only time will tell.

Series 13 was amongst the best yet but oh how I wish stupid SBS would stop editing the thing.
And the ending was a bit lacklustre IMO ,I sort of got the link with Jeremy talking about ’seeing an ending” with the Aston and the end of a series but it just lacked something-the photography was spectacular though.
Cant wait for the next series.

to be completely honest i don’t think that was the best series yet, it was still great but i think its getting to scripted and glitzy S 12 was the best in my opinion

That was by far the best Series so far. Loved Jeremies final advertisment. Didn’t really get the ending though.

So i guess it’s back to TGA. The show that almost everyone hates

Once again, Top Gear proves it is the greatest television show ever made.
The ending was different from any of the series endings ever. I think Jeremy was hinting at the fact that sadly, V12 petrol beasts will one day be no more :( . The wide shots made me think of this.

Thats what you get when the presenters spend too much time in the South of England…I can assure you that up North in proper England the pronunciation would have been very much Bathurst…Disgrace from Hamster and Clarkson, both have obviously forgotten their Yorkshire roots and turned soft.

SBS is hopeless. They didn’t air the cool wall, the Lotus or the episode with the R8 V10. According to TGA Magazine there were supposed to be 8 episodes. SBS, you truly missed the mark. Oh, great series though. It was a bit sad at the end, don’t you agree?

    Echo the Phantom:

You guys call yourselves Revheads? The Vauxhall (a HSV turbo V8) is named after Australia’s most famous car race- The Bathurst 1000, where the race versions of these just won (yay GM).

The town is not pronounced like the spa town in England as ‘Barthurst’. It is a short ‘a’ as in Hammond.

The last episode with the Aston Martin. A sad comment on the purge on speed. Born in 1930 in God’s own county ( Yorkshire) I remember the days when a de-resriction sign meant just that. Foot down and away! No fun police to fine you.
Even our local motoring journal has evidence to show that a recent UK and a USA study show that 95 percent of road accidents are caused by factors other than speed. So why the push on speed restrictions? – because it’s easy. By the way if James and Richard are a bit short I could treat them to a haircut.
Cheers for a damn good show.

I think the last part with the Aston V12 Vantage was a bit unnecessary. Have the greenies been playing with Jeremy’s head? There will always be a market for high performance, and therefore there will always be supercars. We’ll make sure of that.

Also, it was interesting to note that the Maloo was faster than the Aston DB9. Just goes to show even us Aussies can make a fast car, it’s just a pity it has to be a Holden.

I know, I felt the patriotism running through my veins yet I drive a European car and wouldn’t buy a Holden if I was paid to. However, I don’t necessarily think it’s a pity that it’s a Holden, I mean, what else would it be? A Ford? Toyota? Doesn’t really work.

top gear season 13 lets take a look at what isn’t comming up

the one where we dont show all of the news

the one where we dont show the good bits of celebrity intivews

also we take a look at the August edition of top gear magazine which states that in one of the episodes we race Airport Vehicles guss what we don’t

so thats what we don’t show in season 13 and on that bombshell it’s time to get ready to edit out season 14

by the way Quarico uk topgear episodes run for 1 hour without ads Auz topgear runs for 1 hour with ads hope this helps

I see no reason why Ford could not make a fast car. And don’t give me Toyota rubbish, they are and always will be over priced, overrated and over here. Japanese white goods.

The V12 Aston Martin Vantage ending with Jeremy’s poignant comments and Brian Eno’s amazing score is perhaps the greatest piece of television I have ever witnessed.

I’m not a massive rev-head (although I love the cars on TG). I am a photographer by trade and the cinematography in TG is easily the best ever done on television.

The production values are superb and the stories and presenters are without peer.

In hindsight, it’s ridiculous to be crying watching a car drive around the country side, but I couldn’t help myself last night. Very moving!

Congratulations to all involved for consistently making PERFECT television. Bravo!

Can only find 7 episodes in S13 of TG on the BBC website.

I am very sorry that SBS did not shoe the full E5 with the airport vehicles.

Do you expect me to buy the DVDs or what?

..what a poignant ironic but awesome ending with that Aston and Brian Eno’s “An Ending” soundtrack.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Another stellar series from the TG team. Loved every minute.
Only downer was the editing of the eps by SBS/BBC, although I think they might have listened to us cause in the last three episodes there was the news and in the last one there was the lap as well.

Very poetic ending to the series with the Vantage. Absolutely amazing cinematography, and I completley agree with Jeremy. I just hope the ominous feeling in the pit of my stomach is wrong. I don’t want cars like that to die out.

It will be a sad day when the sound of the last supercar’s engine is silenced.

Well.. First of all.. WOW! I only came here because I wanted to say WOW.. WOW WOW WOW about that phenomenal ending.. WOW!

Eat dust Fifth gear. With this ending of the series, you fifth gear geeks can eat yourself!

The ending was better than any other fifth gear episode ever made!

The ending made me empty.. It was so dark.. It was so well planted.. It was absolutely.. staggering! That was made with profession, style and amazingness.. It felt so grown up!

I would really really love if top gear would continue this in the 15 series (since the 14 is done!)

In other words. This series was amazing.. And the ending was absolutely… Staggering!

And about that “The ending of supercars” talking.. Well.. No! I don’t think so.. Because first of all.. We got Ethanol! Why not make cars driven by ethanol? Ferrari has already made a concept! And you get more power from a ethanol engine than from a gasoline engine. And there are only some small glitches you have to do to run ethanol on a gasoline engine! Higher the fuel injection and changing the fuel hose and your ready to go! Cleaner, more power full.. Other than that you wont feel a difference.. The same sound and everything.. over all.. Ethanol is a racing fuel.

Second! If they’ll stop making supercars Then we’ll just keep the present supercars and keep them as toys!
