the Gods have blessed me this week by the 9.30 start. and it was 90% good. please ditch the ute and perhaps the V8 to the rescue stuff. I would like more of the sitting around and discussion, it seemed unfinished.
And lastly I would have preferred Steve in his lycra not Ewan.
Oh and doesn’t Shane also ride a bike, well at least that’s what he told Stubbsy last week on the radio

I only pray the Gods will smile on me next week

now being encuraged by your pathetic show.as Steve claims to ride 10,000kms a year you would have thought he might have had some input to promote safe shareing of the road for all not a wind up for those sensless few who think the road is theres.why dont you stick Ewin on a bicicle through the city on a 50km ride and see how safe he feels!!! will ge glad when you guys give up an fill the wasted air time with the real Top Gear

show’s getting much better than it was originally. All the doubters need to remember that Top Gear UK was nowhere near as popular when it started as it is now. The right hosts are there, there’s some good crazy elements. My only problem with the show is that it doesn’t need to be so authentically Australian all the time. There doesn’t need to be a ute as the reasonably priced car.
Nevertheless keep it up tonight’s ep was the best TGA episode I’ve seen so far

Totally agree with you Dazza. You would think that they would do a segment which would promote safe shareing of the road, but oh no, they had to do a segment which just inflames the situation.
Its dangerous enough on the roads without irresponsible segments like that.
I invite Ewin on a short ride with me, say a lazy 100km around Sydney, to see how a cyclist who obeys all the rules is abused and bullied just for riding a bike legally and within the road rules.
Just reply to this comment Ewin and make it happen, but I am not holding my breath.

The race was a bit crap. Some funny humour. But obvious crap like Steve getting pulled over. It had no excitement. Who directs this show? (or edits it?)

I only watched the last half of the show, as I began the first half in the littlest room in the house, reading TGA magazine…. evacuating my bowels. Great thing about the toilet is… I don’t have to actually look at the shit. But then I turned on the telly and saw the last half of TGA. My god…. it was balls. The cyclist thing was funny, and true. Hamish Blake is a funny bugger too. But why, oh why was that egregious affront to the mind called “V8 to the rescue shown?”. I felt embarrassed to be called Australian. Whoever came up with that. The last showing of V8TTR… should have their mouth duct taped to the exhaust pipe… and have the engine revved to 5000rpm. Then it will have rescued something.. Australian TV, from such a dullard.

Why can’t TGA be mentally challenging. I am a car person. I want facts and figures… and nerdy shit. Some of us, believe it or not, can understand it. Because we are passionate enough to learn about it. And when a car like the Red Back comes on…. why can’t I see it pitted against something like a Noble? Or a car of equal means made somewhere else? Or even see the thing ‘get stigged’?

It’s like the show is made to be deliberately derogatory to Australians. This show is getting made by the wrong channel. Channel Seven. Or perhaps a cable channel should take it over, and sell it to Nine. Either way, it has to change.

Again I agree with 60% of what you say,THIS HAS GOT TO STOP Ch 9 is the wrong channel, at least SBS were trying to get the balance right Yes there is too much SHane but he is currently ch9′s baby (Beaconsfield telemovie coming up and other projects with 9) and I bet the editors and writers have been told more of him and less of the others.

Unfortunately I watched the first 10 mins of Total Garbage Again and was thoroughly unimpressed.

I’m thinking the brains trust at Channel 9 bumped it up to 9:30 in a cunning and sly effort to hope this hopeless excuse for entertainment attracts a different type of knuckle scraping troglodyte, or maybe it’s to avoid another ratings whitewash seeing as this thing is now in Cops LAC territory

I was disgusted with the performance on Top Gear Australia last night. When public access to 4WD tracks is being constantly restricted, these clowns are hooning along a single lane public road (the Bridle Track) and using a strap to tear a chain off a locked gate (in a very dangerous fashion). Launching a vehicle over a crest and then complaining when something breaks. Driving off track into a river without checking (or doing half a job).
    Smarten up, guys.

Then don’t get me started on the “Smart Car – I’m driving like a cyclist” cr@p. Illegal, dangerous, pointless and offensive.

…and standing next to a running turbine without hearing protectors – OH&S, guys…

…and what was the point of the V8 powered kebab?

I’d love to see this show work, but to see that ill-conceived, poorly executed and narrow minded drivel about cyclist suggests was seriously disappointing.

I’m not a cyclist but I respect their right to be on the road. Yes there are those amongst them that don’t do the right thing, but there are plenty of drivers who do too.

PS – The fat presenter would be well served by getting on a bike and shedding some kg’s!

But you better adjust your attitude because the law is coming to make motorists slow and avoid cyclists by a set distance.

So here it is, guys, my one and only comment… just posted on our Facebook, as regards the cycling segment.
Sigh. Hysterical cyclists bitching about what was a segment on the poor behaviour of a small minority of cyclists. Just because you ride does not mean you possess greater integrity than someone who drives. Road rules are road rules. I ride a bike too – find me someone who hasn’t. It’s not about hate and bullying or car vs bike. It’s about the fact SOME cyclists have no regard for road rules and endanger themselves and others. And these are the same people, with their shrill lobby groups and colourful responses, who want to paint all car drivers as having intent. I have no problem sharing road space with bikes. But every time someone writes or says anything ever so slightly disparaging of cycling’s lunatic fringe, out comes the old “you’re encouraging drivers to kill cyclists” chestnut. Crap. Yes, I know many Australian drivers are intolerant and ignorant. I’m not one of them. But I also know what I see on the street, every day.

Support from me. I thought the cycling segment was the best part of the ep. And yes, it was right on the money.

I’m a triple threat; I drive a car, ride a scooter and ride a treadly.

Two of those require (some level of) training and a licence, and are subject to rego detection and consequence.

I have air horns on my Jeep specifically for the three-abreast lycra lunatic crowd, and I have air horns on my scooter (true story) specifically to ward off blind 4WD drivers.

Don’t let them get you down Ewen. And just wait until you guys steal the Tour Down Under from us, it’ll be 10 times worse.

    Hey guys,
Thought I’d put in my 2 cents worth. I’m glad channel 9 are starting to listen to the Australian public regarding their input into the show. Very thankfull I’m not seeing any more of Warnie driving around yelling ‘bald Shane!’ -we know and thats why he’s plugging ads for hair plugs. Leave him in Liz’s makeup room where he belongs.
I know it’s a bit late in asking as the season has already been taped but how about getting Rachelle Splatt or Leanne Tander on the show?
I’m trying to like TGA but the other guys on here are hitting the mark with Shane Jacobsen…top bloke but not suited for Top Gear if I had my way I’d bring back Warren Brown or give one of the above mentioned ladies a job at hosting the show.
P.S. Ewen thanks for your work on the blogs here. It shows you’re passionate about your motoring journalism and you care what the viewrs have to say. Keep up the good work

Ewin, Don’t take it personally your all regular blokes I respect that, but take a look at your comments again then look at the type of people we are both referring too. Icedvovo has bagged the show twice already then the moment you make a comment he is your buddy “support from me” boasting how he gets around in his Jeep (says it all!!!) with his custom Air Horns so as he can creep up behind the Lycra Lunatic’s blast the horns and scare the daylights out of them, maybe loosing balance and ending up under the wheels of his 4×4 while he is protected all round by a big hunk of steel. out of 28 comments on this page three of them are from Icedvovo, you do the sums as you know the numbers that watch the show and this will tell you how many people % out there that think like Icedvovo. Good luck with the show maybe you should put your hand up for the host!!!

C’mon! I’ve bagged the show waaaaay more than twice. And although I don’t think much of the show in it’s current form I have mentioned elsewhere that I liked the Smart car bike bit.

As for being Ewen’s mate, I have no problem with the current presenters, however I think the production company is totally out of its depth with the project.

And FYI, an XJ Jeep weighs less than a Commodore and is the roughly same length as a Corolla. So it’s mostly a big hunk of Mexican rattles.

I also mentioned I get around on a scooter and a bike, but you seemed to have missed that bit.

    Dear Cyclist,
There is a share of cyclists who don’t give a toss about the road rules, get over it. The same can be said of motorists & we have gotten over that. Lighten up. Perhaps if you pulled the lycra out your cracks you would feel more comfortable discussing these things. Your not all Lance Armstrong & there’s no need for the Lycra. For 99% of cyclists it just shows that they are wannabes. Before there are any complains, I ride my bike to work & back 6 days a week. That’s about 32km per day round trip & I do it all on public roads in my work uniform (steel cap boots, long pants & polo shirt), so I’m quite aware of what goes on on the roads from both sides of the coin.
    From,
    Red Terror.

    Dear Ideas People at TGA,
What were you on when you came up with V8 To The Rescue? That has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen & is merely a copy of what TGUK did in it’s earlier days, except they did it better. It’s a copy idea that is being poorly executed. If you want the V8 to “rescue” something, feed the moron that copied the idea into a V8 powered chipper, otherwise drop that segment altogether.
    From,
    Red Terror.

As for the rest of the show, not too bad though the race was very crap & tearing open a locked gate just isn’t right. I realise that it was probably staged to try to get a few giggles but leaving gates open in the bush is no laughing matter. Leave the gate how you found it is the motto. Leaving a gate open could allow livestock access into a farmers crops or worse still onto a public road. Closing a gate that was open could cut animals off from a vital water supply & feed. Don’t mess with the gates guys.

    Overall not a bad effort.

Oh, yeah, Icedevovo, weight & length have little to do with injuries when hitting something unless your actually going over the object with your wheels. It’s about the shape of the vehicle. Your Jeep is high & square. When you hit something it is more likely to be pushed under the vehicle or just bounce straigh off flying back up the road resulting in serious injuries or death. If you get hit by the average passenger car you will find it hits you low & you will land on the bonnet/windscreen area & then be thrown forward as the driver brakes.

Neither one is good but given a choice I’d rather get hit by a standard family car everytime.

PS, Jeeps suck. Go buy a Landrover or a Cruiser.

    @ Red Terror

All the more reason to keep out of my way. :) Having said that, I think not getting hit in the first place would be the better option.

Edward de Bono had an interesting take on road safety. Replace all airbags with steel spikes. In other words, learn to avoid.

And no, I won’t be drawn on the merits of Jeeps et al. ;)

    On a sensible note.

IMHO indented bus stops would really help the whole bike/car situation. Most of the near misses I see are when a bike has to swing out from a bike lane around the outside of a stopped bus.

They probably could have made a top class show, but they didn’t want to.
by the way protesting to Ch9 won’t change their mind, this was the plan all along.

Oh how I wish SBS had of held out as we might have had something worth it by now.

Sell TGA to a station that wants it. Don’t kill off the show. Some people enjoy it…well most of it. The V8 thing’s a bit stupid. And the news segment is too short. And only have stars who actually like cars.

what is needed though is for the hosts to be more comfortable/natural in front of the camera. That should come with time though. Add that to better interactions amongst themselves (say by hanging out together) and the show will be vastly improved.

I’m not surprised that the ratings were terrible. I for one have been a fan of top gear watching every episode since about season 3.

I was also a huge fan of Top Gear Australia, which perhaps not to the same level of awesomeness as TGUK at least gave me something else entertainign to look forward to in the months between TGUK being on-air.

However, I never even heard that this final season was airing. Had I known, I’d have been watching i every weekt. Poor promotion I say.

I found out about this final season having aired while visiting the finalgear website to find out when I could expect my next dosage of automotive indulgence, and was surprised to see that I’d already missed the whole series, and that it was unlikely to be continuing. Poor form channel 9. At least they were avaiable on You Tube so my ‘support’ of the show can be seen not that I think it’ll be counted by anyone at WIN by the sounds of things.

I enjoyed the final season, but I’d have to agree with two of the comments repeated above.

    1. Ute should not be the reasonable priced car (if we are going to go australian, a holden Omega, or Falcon XR6 would be a better choice, but would prefer a new car under $15k as per UK show – The Proton was a better reasonably priced car)

    2. V8 to the rescue was a poor copy of an idea stolen from the UK that they correctly promptly dropped.

I hope that they do bring it back, and I will now go looking to see if the remaing 3 episodes of the series exist on youtube for me to buy and watch because I want to watch the program. However, I don’t think I should hold my breath.
