So hopefully, you’ve just spent a great wad of time watching the unseen TopGear Australia episodes, and you sat there, thrilled, possibly frothing, near to a seizure of excitement.
But fact is, many of you will have turned bright pink with a weird, gurgling anger, as if you could destroy many living things with your naked fists.
This is interesting. And if this is you, we’d like to shine a torch into your ear and get an idea of what you thought about the lost TGA episodes.
So yes. Did the episodes make you giddy, or feverishly enraged? Did Channel Nine make a mistake by shelving the show? Could these last three episodes have saved it?
Should Channel Nine exhume TopGear Australia and give it another chance?

Still can’t believe these never aired, the ratings were never ‘that’ bad, just not what 9 was expecting, back to SBS.
Yeah, I’d have loved to see more of the trio. It seemed like they had found their own version of what the boys in the U.K. have.
if the poms are not maybe we should
they just tried tooooo hard! Relax a bit guys and stop trying to the Jezza and crew. Be yourself and it may have worked…… tooo late
I saw them when they aired on Go! and I thought they weren’t bad. What I’d like to see is the final episode that Go! aired last Saturday from the 2010 season which didn’t make it to air when it should have 2 years ago. I don’t see it included here.
Disregard my last comment. That episode you have under season 4 – episode 4 was that final episode I missed last Saturday.
Sorry fellas, you all tried too hard, came across as forced and unnatural..
In case you feel hurt and dejected with this news, the USA version was even worse and they have a lot more resources and talent to pick from.. The Poms have it nailed…and that is that.
I believe the only way an Aussie version would stand any chance of success is to have one of the English trio joined by two Aussie presenters taking the Mick out of the Pom while showing the Australian way of doing things..
Would this be possible?
aussiebaron
no7, not possible, its not just the hosts, the camera crew/type of filming/editing etc are f&%#@ing useless as well, the USTG was OK to watch.
NO..TGA was pathetic with the boys trying to be copies of the pom trio and they failed.I watched a top gear usa episode once and I thought the yanks did a better job than the aussies because they did not try to copy the pom trio.Of course lightning will now dump on me for saying anything good about the septics!
this isnt the unaired episode where tg takes on stunt driving!
i dont think anything could save top gear Australia as it was totally crap
Grump Summed up everything I though in post 9!
Seriously, I was really excited to watch TGA…and then the camera zoomed in, all 3 presenters were standing ‘zen’ like around the stage (as they stood for the introduction for EVERY episode) and then they made silly comments! The beauty of TGUK is the unpredictability mixed with humour surrounding cars. TGA had more predictability than Play School
The best thing that could happen to Top Gear UK and Australia is it go back to SBS.
Nine killed it for even the most avid fans…
Sorry guy’s but Top Gear Australia should be moved to the wee hours of the morning when all it has to compete against are infomercials! Relax, be yourselves and the show would not feel so contrived. May even be a success.
I think the studio scenes are rubbish, feels very forced, with only the star in a ute segment being good. The stuff that happens outside the studio and on the track is pretty good though.
My main issue is with the web player, the sound is terrible, seriously just load to youtube so people can watch it how it should be seen/heard. It would also generate more interest there.
I enjoyed TGA – it was never the best but I still like the unique angle that we get from an Aussie perspective. TG UK is great, but when it’s difficult or extremely expensive to get those cars in AU, it lacks relevance.
TG US is pretty bad, contrived and has the same problem with relevance, but I still enjoy it.
If the STUPID commercial stations could commit to a single air time for a show, I’d watch it. But when a show isn’t popular enough, they keep moving it about until I lose interest in trying to find it any more – so there’s a lot of TG au episodes I’ve missed.
bring it back, bring it back, bring it back, we cant let the brits have it all.
The Blue Meanie and Efigy special was fantastic to watch and I was as into it as I would be a top gear UK or America episode!! Give it another chance!!
just love the show. 10x better than the american crap almost as great as the UK version. pleese make the show continue.
I Like it.
the people mover wins hands down, because if you buy a suv you are a mindless wanker who should be shot and f__k off this web site is for drivers!!!!!
As usual Channel 9 bought the show to cash in and dropped it when the “ratings slipped” They should have given the boys a chance to click like the UK team. It took a few line-up changes and a few years before the UK presenters “gelled” and built the raport and chemistry the is the appeal of the show. But 9 didnt have the BALLS to give it a proper chance. Sell it to SBS and let them rebuild the local brand. I love the guys on the show now.
myzcar is spot on
It was a ch9 complete rip off,
now i think tg uk is on the slide to! oh we cant do a series because of the Olympics!
BS
If ch9 spent more than $10 on the oz production it would have worked!
they spend zillions on utter shit reality shows then ball sports ,promote drunk drug taking thugs as”roll models”
then replay American crap FOREVER!!
there is no way they will be left with much of an audience if they really take 12mths to give us a new series.
This website will be irrelevant in 6mths
Sad!!!
Mindless bogan drivel at it’s worst.I cringe to think that someone overseas might see this crap. As much of an embarrassment as Julia Gillard!!!
No one can be as good as the original crew. However, even they started to loose the touch with originality. Hammond “obvious stupidity” is getting worse, and some segments are really boring, and again stupid.
They are still my favourite tho.
TGA is good. They are funny, and much better than TG USA.
Having in mind that TG UK is having 6 episodes per year, it’s sad to see no TGA on TV.
Everyone is right about not being able to match the UK original – anyone can use the theme, and have a Stig, and 3 blokey blokes, but few can replicate the wit and interaction of Clarkson, Hammond and May. If other people tried to do their own original thing instead of just cloning previous successes, they’d have a much better chance of creating something worthwhile.
I think I saw flashes of potential in Aussie TG – that fat presenter coulda been a riot if he had 2 other decent presenters to work with – but the show didn’t get a chance to ripen, something that even UK TG needed a year or 2 to do.
The biggest hurdle for TG/Aus is that they and their sponsors simply don’t have the finance to get some of the best cars and do a proper review on the show.
And although the hosts’ have built a sort of rapport with each other they are still most of the time very much stiff and trying too hard with their deliveries.
Same with the guest..
..and even the crowd.
Think the test ute vehicle and the video shots of the track are lame.
Overall the show has a very provincial feel.
Wow. this was my first ever tg-episode to be watched “legally”, as they show even those uk ones at about 2 year delay in Finland. i cant even understand why i was able to watch this here, something like this is always blocked
There should be couple more spinoff-topgears, so we would have something to watch every week.. UK+US+AU only covered about half a year, so why would people complain about that spinoffs arent “the same” as originals.. if i already watched the original, why would i want to see it again by “actors”?
Bring it back, but not with FWits at channel 9 who were only ever interested in prising the UK show from SBS. Poor scheduling and pathetic promotion meant the show was doomed from the beginning. Tell Channel 9 to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine and return all versions of this great show back to SBS!!
its sad Ch 9 stole the show off SBS who might have done a good job with it but Ch 9, never. Sadly I enjoy almost all about OZ but its a motoring desert and will not change until some of the stupid road laws change. The 60 mph (101Km) limit was brought in when all the locals had to drive were bad copies of defunct pom motor cars and trucks that were just plain dangerous above that speed. It is not the case nowadays. High profile local car racing has to feature more then 2 makes which is plain stupid when there are a heap of makes out there to make motor racing a real thilling spectacle instead a 2 horse event. If the locals can then still beat the rest of the world cann offer, what a thrill. All this unfortunately will reflect in any car magazine show that Oz tries to run. So change the motoring culture guys and the shows will follow. Until that occurs just continue to tune in to TG Uk hopefully run by SBS
Bring back top gear Australia we need to know what car holden to buy
TGA was great cant believe it was canned i think you guys did a great job come along way from season 1 which was dull the later seasons got better and better
bring it back! These last episodes were the best of the series. Series 4 improved so much from series 3. Please give it another chance! My only suggestion would be to stop doing lots of small films. I like the big two part challenges much better! Anyway it is good stuff this series. Bring it back please!
It just seemed that Nine ruined it with ads! Same for the UK TG. They need to cut the ads, put it on at like 8-9.30 pm, when people will actually watch it, plus the presenters should try not to mimic the UK TG trio completly, if they did the above, it would stand a chance, plus the UK TG viewings would go up…
The episodes were alright. The V8 engine baby sleep thing was a cheap rip-off.
Besides I also think that since TopGear is more or so an entertainment show than consumer advice show, TopGear UK does that better for us.
Australia doesn’t make much cars and hasn’t got access to as much cars as they do in Europe, neither has TopGear Australia got the financial resources to manage to have expensive special episodes.
If we didn’t speak english here then a local production would have made sense but in all honesty TopGear UK is much better and entertaining.
I like TGA, it wasn’t as good as TGUK, but is was still a good show. I’d rather watch new TGA episodes than TGUK repeats. The recent episodes on Go! were more entertaining than watching the TGUK repeats usually found in that time slot. Some people seem to think that that TGUK was always as good as it is now, but it took a few seasons for it to get where it is. It was around series 5 when it started to get to where it is, TGA will be the same, the might take longer though because of the presenter and network changes, but it’s a good show and it’ll get better with time.
I liked the show (and the US version too). I think the US Version works because they run challenges every episode for entertainment. Maybe the producers of TGA would consider episodes based around challenges. This takes away peoples personal opinions of whether they like the presenters or not, by just enjoying entertaining viewing.
The show was still finding its feet and direction. A little more time would reveal a good Australian car/motoring show. You should even drop the carry-over stuff from TGUK and let it stand on its own. I was completely entertained and had a good time watching. I especially enjoyed the editorial comments – like the comment on the stupidity of teenagers not being able to drive a small turbo but being able to drive a sporty ute – or calling people who drive 4WDs on road tossers. More of this serious comment disguised as comedy would have added to the entertainment already there.
To be honest there show isn’t that bad. Like many other people have said, they were still finding its feet and direction. I think they should resume the show, and I find them quite entertaining and they do deserve another chance.
These last episodes were much better than previous episodes as the guys started to gel together. TGUK will always be awesome and TGUS has completely changed the formula by being different to the UK version. TGA tried to be too much like the original. I would love to see it back on TV but with more “Aussieness.” Firstly Steve needs to show of his talent as a racing/stunt/precision driver. He should be better than the other two and this should be used with good drifting and the like. Ewan was good and his road tests were great. I think more of this would be good. Obviously Shane is the comedian so utilise this. The 4th season was better, faster, good segments and i’d like to eventually see it back. Otherwise, Best Motoring Australia anyone???
They took it off the air just as they began to work really well together. Bring them back already!
the only way it will work if they get some v8 super car drivers to host the show, such as Ingal/Larkham/skaife or just about any of them.
You guys just copied every challenge Top Gear UK ever did.
Got to be more Australian, be different. Be original. Come up with your own ideas.
When they did their own stuff they did it well. When they borrowed ie the v8 they put everyone to sleep. You don’t need a big budget to be good just get creative people who aren’t trying to force things ie every laugh is scripted. For about the last three seasons St UK has been flat/dull for that exact reason then something happened this year. COPY THAT:-)
FWI the Peel bit was funny other than the chopper drop. I was chuckling when he was towing it with a bicycle, then was laughing when it slowed ran into the bike and fell over. That was better than any tguk peel gag by far.
Bring this back! These were the best 3 episodes of the series. The guys are finally developing some chemistry and moving away from the original, just like the US version. It wasn’t great the first few episodes either, but has found it’s own niche. As an ex-pat now living in Canada, I enjoy the Auzzie point of view and like seeing cars that we don’t get in North America. More Top Gear Auz!
Please bring back the show!
I watch all 3 TopGears shows (UK,US and AUS) and each one has it´s own style. The shows are entertaining and worth watching.
Hopefully they get another chance. If the TV channel is the problem just bring it back to the original one.
It is such a shame that SBS failed to grab Top Gear Australia back from 9. These last 3 shows were very good in my opinion. Ever since SBS lost Top Gear it has not been given the recognition or chance that it deserved. Not everyone wants to watch how to cook dance and sing reality shows. I want Top Gear back on SBS. I missed most of Top Gear UK this year due to it not being on when advertised too. Bring Top Gear Australia back to SBS.
I quite enjoyed TGAUS athough I’d agree that the presenters needed a little more time to gell and find thier own place/style instead of trying to copy the Poms. V8 to the rescue was a bit pointless and repetitive (it always breaks). The other big issue is that was way too many ad breaks and so they were trying to do too much in an episode, they were trying to do in 40 min what TGUK did in 60 min, there was often no background on the challenges just straight into the action. Although it was getting better near the end. I agree SBS was doing a much better job near the end.
TGA was fine but still needed a little refining. CH9 were the ones stuffing it up with changing the start times with the program & that’s where the viewing figures went down. I understand CH9 need advertisements to draw revenue but seriously there were too many ads. All that’s left now to watch are crappy reality TV shows that no one can be bothered to watch. Even TGUK took a little while to take off & look where it is today! CH9 stop stuffing about & put it back on.
the problem with ch9 is that they only realy cater for people who watch tv full time such as people in nursing homes, I think the digital system lets them know how many people are watching what instantly, so they can say that more people see the ads also. I could not see Lotus or porsche selling many cars if the advertised on ch 9.
What a shame! It doesnt matter if it wasnt as good as the uk version or not i thought it was. There a too many stupid reality shows on that the women want to watch and football for the non petrol heads us rev heads need these type of shows to keep us sain! come on channel nine give us some variety. Top gear australia give it another go dont make us watch another channel or a video!
Well it’s than MasterVoice or Two and a half Broke girls or whatever,s on at the same time. I say bring it back!!!
The Austrlian editions were all so cringe worthy. They tried to replicate the Boys Own Beano quality of his craiginess, May and whatshisface. They work because they are. They appear not to be constructed but both the SBS and the Channel 9 editions of Top Gear Australia try to be too blokey.
What if Channel 9 actually did a show which showed what selfish and self centered morons Melbourne are? Driving up behind a car turning right which is indicating right and then sitting behind him and blowing your horn , gee thats really intelligent.
Driving thru when trams are stopped and pedestrians are boarding and leaving the tram and the driver abuses the pedestrians
Running red lights and abusing people on pedestrian crossings
Yep thats the show I want to see
I love Top Gear Australia and it should be brought back with Warren Brown and Steve. This show deserves a second chance
Shane Jacobsen and Steve pizzati absolutely MAKE this show. They’ve done such a good job, it’s dissapointing it’s gone.
Every thing I have said in the past re channel 9 not wanting TGA is now vindicated by all the above comments.
I still disagree about Shane Jacobson as host, he clearly used this to cut a deal with Ch9 for a more secure acting future.
Yep, Warren, Steve and maybe a number 3 host (In series 2 when James wasn’t there they did a good job by themselves), good production values and people who make TV (SBS) not for profit.
It can work but the will needs to be there
In the build up to when top gear Australia first started airing, there was overwhelming support. I for one really wanted to watch it and thought it would be a nice addition to Australia’s lackluster tv line up. Additionally, Australia doesn’t have any motoring commentary shows itself – we rely heavily on the Internet and television shows abroad. But top gear Australia was always set to fail and those of us who are well acquainted with the UK series knew this. There are a few reasons.
Firstly, Australia lacks a car industry and car culture. Sure, we have Holden and Ford supporters but a big part of the top gear viewing base is interested in the super/hyper car pornography that is only common in Europe, the Emirates and (possibly) the US. Australia is on the edge of Asia (where the “pacific rim” cars come from) and as a result, the Australian roads are filled with pacific rim cars that (let’s face it) no one with a personality is interested in (I am assuming that all top gear viewers have personality). A good example is the very first season of top gear Australia with the original hosts. The original hosts did several car challenges pitting Ford against Holden which isn’t what we wanted to see. We wanted to see those rare cars that only seem to exist abroad. Also, how many industrial estate car companies exist in Australia? The UK seems to be plagued with them while I can only think of one in Australia (elphin), giving very little to report about.
Secondly, top gear Australia lacked the right hosts from the start. I was one of the few people (probably) who watched all of season one from start to finish. The hosts lacked the chemistry that is necessary to make a forum show like top gear work. This got better when the hosts were changed but it still lacked the natural flow and ability to bounce off one another that a good show should have.
Thirdly, top gear Australia was trying too hard to be something it wasn’t – the original top gear UK series. This was corrected later on when the hosts made it blatantly clear that they shouldn’t be compared with the original but this wasn’t helped by the fact that it was still filmed in an airplane hanger, in front of a large audience and in similar settings.
Recommendations:
Have the hosts as 2 Men and 1 girl. It would help capture a larger audience and people would realize (and make the connection) that it’s different to top gear uk. It would also be refreshing to make it stand out, allowing people to see it as a show for everyone.
Move away from the idea of having a full studio audience to only a small audience (50 people). It will be less daunting to the hosts, allowing them to become accustomed to hosting and how to work the room (note that top gear uk started off with a small studio audience and then went large). in addition to this, have the audience at the front. For example, the news segment could be done behind a long curved desk with the audience at the front (like a saturday morning news/variety program)
Send the hosts overseas to Europe/the emirates/US where they can review the super/hyper car pornography that we want to see.
I think that if top gear Australia applied these changes, they could be in for a shot of being a successful car program.
Thanks
Get Top Gear Australia back on air. This last season is the best of the four, And i believe a fifth season is even better. I live in Norway, and love this show. A lot of my friends also think this show is great!!
Give us back Top Gear Australia
Nice episode. Too bad Episode 4 had the narration too low in some segments, especially with the roadgoing Formula car. It was almost impossible to hear what was said.
Interesting how when you take something away people want it more – Even when they hated it in the first place!!!
Now it looks like no tg for a long time,
I have my doubts that the uk show surface in 12 mths.
Audimayo is right it had all the trademarks of a slap together -go on the shirt tails of the uk version show.
Thing is tg fans are a bit smarter than – say football fans (watch, buy, anything)
V8 zupa carz is doing great since they started promoting it like a football game!
opportunity was there but i think its gone now
Bring it back, the new guys made it something great, but people still thought it was bad from the original presenters. Plus, channel 9 didn’t help the ratings by putting it on so late – at least put it on GO! during primetime if The Voice is too much to interrupt
The show is a quality one. Sometimes the hosts seem forced an unnatural, but other times they’re really good. The show itself has good content and holds up well. If 9 doesn’t want it, doesn’t want to fund it properly, or air it, then sell it to another network. This show deserves better than 9′s treatment.
I just can’t understand why your show was terminated & the US version is still running. You lot at least have a good laugh going on and it’s really entertaining to see the Aussie twist to everything on the show – love it!
I know it’s hard to compete with the UK original show, but out of all the regional TopGear’s yours is the best one in my humble opinion.
Top gear Australia wasn’t the same as the UK. I’m not interested in Australian cars that much even though I’m Australian. But Top gear UK shows it all.
Top Gear Australia ,it’s more like bottom gear.
Bring it back!!! Please… TGA could learn a thing from TG US. Please stop forcing the humor. Put the presenters in situations where it will appear naturally.
Give it back to SBS please
Keep it coming boys, we need more Top Gear, sell it back to Briton. There would be a digital channel that would lap it up I bet.
TGA had many good elements and I even liked the three guys when they are not trying to act.
Someone already said the show and jokes are to predictable, and that´s true. Sure, its hard to be creative and produce new things that UK and USA did not already do. The beach-buggy segment was, and the hotrod was nicely done and unique too.
Another problem is the missing eye candy. TG UK really has pushed the limits of visual effects beyond Hollywood and this became an essential part of TG. So the viewer of TGA and USA just expects it, perhaps unknowingly.
So if the spin-offs can´t reach the mark, the only option is to do different. But then it would not be Top Gear(ish).
It’s rubbish! That’s all I have to say about TGA. You just can’t copy TG
Pls, Bring it back.
More challenges, they were always the best. the new formula on nine was entertaining for me. I just wonder if the show had a different name that it would of survived. I really enjoyed TGA and I felt they were building some descent momentum just to get axed.
I’m for the Bring it back or come back with something similar. We don’t really have much when it comes to motor car shows in oz and TGA was making good progress.
last ep was great! more of same please. Loved the hot rod !
I just watched a new TG episode on GO channel[88],so topgear has been replaced by that crap freak singing show on channel 9.
great show – a shame, it was never shown on tv. The guys did a great job and the show deserves to continue.
I really liked these last two episodes. Far better than TG USA..
These 3 episodes are great! Finally they get the show flowing and working well and it gets cancelled. Bring it back I say, it may not be like the UK version but its still very entertaining. The UK version took a while to get up to speed as well and imo 4 seasons isn’t enough… Bring it back, PLEASE!!
Australians are just haters to begin with. A bunch of whining, hypocritical, Nike wearing tall poppies. It doesn’t help that statisticians at Channel 9 constantly get cold feet trying to appear to this demographic.
Which brings me to my point: man up channel 9. Learn from mistakes and make better series in Australia, rather than buying another shitty CSI Calcutta type franchise from the US. This series was great. Sure there’s a bit of sappy dialogue, but that improves with time. I really miss this show. And I hate the haters who hate for the sake of hating. Is there too many hates in that sentence?
It blows my mind that people say their chemistry is forced and unnatural. Then I guess you clearly haven’t watched top gear usa that is the definition of forced and unatural yet somehow they’ve got the thumbs up for a third season!?!? Come on lol!
To be blunt, I’m one of those dirty pirates from the US who gets Top Gear USA on History… and Top Gear UK / Australia on Bit-Torrent. So, keep that mind for my take on this.
Speaking for myself I enjoyed where Top Gear Australia was going on Channel Nine with Steve, Shane, and Ewan. The problem is, I don’t think the wider market that was interested in Top Gear Australia was really able to get invested in the show.
Case in point here would be Top Gear UK. The show is a massive world-wide success with rebroadcasting in multiple countries. The TG-UK presenters typically make a point of just how big their total broadcast/rebroadcast audience actually is. The TG-UK production staff has also admitted they are aware of the FinalGear fan crowd, and understand that even in the US where TG-UK has been repeatedly butchered trying to fit the show into an economic model the George Burns show would have found new and exciting, there is an active fan-base that wants to try and support Top Gear.
With TG-AU, there’s no real way I can show my support for the show. A large number of people who were interested in the Australian version still have no (direct) legal way to actually watch the show.
To be blunt, Channel Nine’s approach was fundamentally flawed. From what I saw Channel Nine tried to make TG-AU entirely reliant on an Australian Audience… rather than a world-wide audience.
My ultimate opinion would be that yes, TG-AU with Steve, Shane, and Ewan should probably be brought back. However, the show needs to be set up in a way so that it can leverage the World-Wide Top-Gear fan-base, rather than just Austrlian fans.
Something like say… $50 buys a season pass to watch or download a season of TG-AU, regardless of country. I’m not saying that’s the only way to go about it, but finding a different economic model that gets TG shows out of direct reliance ad-supported television hell would do a lot more to directly support the shows.
no76, yes you are 100% correct, we could never have a civil war in oz because everyone hates everyone, so we never have “them and us problem”, we are lucky in that way.
I just returned from Europe and I realised we are the haters of the world, are we scum? why are we like this?
I’m also an avid Top Gear fan from the US and I watch the show(s) the same way. I go to a private racing/auto enthuiast site for for Top Gear UK, Fifth Gear and Top Gear Oz back when it was airing. I even watched the few Top Gear Russias that came out. In any event, bad Top Gear is better than the other drivel that gets shown on TV so although TG Oz was probably my least favorite of the shows, it did make me laugh and kept me coming back for more. I say keep the hosts, massage the format a bit (Drop the V8 to the rescue schtick) and give it another go. THe world needs more car shows and this one didn’t suck bad enough to end it.
Vive Le Stig!
i respect the opinions of the UK presenters.
if one of those australian goons gets near a car i like, i’ll more likely be put off. uncultured bogans can ask for a car review section on the footy show. top gear should be about more than boofheads, that is why the Uk boys succeed.
Post 82,You should try living there, everything is just all bull@#$t, its worse the Mexico, China should put them out of their misery.
These last eps seemed like they were saving the best for last but the suits couldnt wait to pull the plug…obviously not car guys
Cracking show, should have done a series 4 as these prove they were just hitting their stride.
Shame…
Bring it back!
Post76, Its not our fault we are “haters” if you had politcians/governmen official/local councils like we have you too would be a hater.
I like the Show and would be happy to see more of you Aussies. I also like that I can now watch the last bits of the season.
There are 2 drawbacks=
1) The overall Sound is like hearing an old MW Radio.
2) The audio editing is horrible. Most of the time during a segment, the music is way too loud! I barely understand what the host is telling me about the car.
Who watches Topgear Australia anymore. The first 2 months it was on, I didn’t even know whether Topgear Aus was an advertising campaign or a TV show.
I think its a great show you just need more time to define yourselves, you have alot to overcome just by being on air.
There is definately a great series here i think you need a few more seasons to really come out much like top gear uk.
I enjoyed watching TGA. It seems a little forced and unnatural, but was starting to get better and more unique. I quite enjoyed watching it.
As for TopGear US, that started off HORRIBLE, but then started to get a little bit better. But I still believe that TG US is far behind TGA in the “forced and unnatural” category.
Definitely i would like to see new episodes of TopGear Australia, it is an excellent tv show.
Good luck, guys!
What’s with the comments stating TGA & TGUS simply copied TGUK with studio audiences in aircraft hangers & other similarities they shouldn’t have… I think the conglomerate that is Clarkson & Co had a huge say in what ‘model’ SBS, Channel 9, & anyone else who may have the balls to create a Series 5 of TGA…
Having said that – bring it on. It’s still better than the 1 hour cut down TGUK repeats showing 6.30pm on Ch Go. Not SBS though, as soon as you leave a regional city in Aus you can’t watch it…
I mourned the day this went off the air. I loved this show so much. Just as much as i love Top Gear USA and UK. These guys are awesome and perfect. I hope it comes back. Much love from Trinidad.
I loved the aussie Tg and always did, The issue was for me they kept changing the time slot. It started at being 7.30pm then went to 8pm then 8.30pm then it was put on after big wank theory which i have never watched. I don’t have a problem with the presenters or the people who produced the show. BUT I SAID IT IN EARLIER POSTS ON THIS SITE THAT CHANNEL NINE WOULD 4UCK THIS SHOW OVER AND IT HAS DONE COMPLETELY THAT. Now there isn’t an aussie version that i did enjoy. It would have been nice to come home and watch it at the same time same place each week but NO, Some moron in the Ch 9 schedule decided that the loyal viewer needed to check his guide each week to work out when it was on. RIP topgear australia i hope you are a bit like christ and it gets the resurrection it deserves and a fair go on a different network.
Amen.
I love Top Gear UK. I even used to watch the originals before Clarkson turned it into something much more spectacular.
Well after reading the advertisement in the newspaper originally seeking people to become the Top Gear Australia show hosts, I even thought maybe I should give it a shot. The only thing was, one of the requirements of the audition clearly stated that they did not want any presenters to be like Clarkson, May or Hammond. I thought great! The show will have its own identity and its own interesting hosts.
Oh how wrong I was. It was bitterly horrible to the point of sheer frustration. Everything is just regurgitated from UK, but in typical Aussie fashion, a much more boring, half assed attempt to make it work. Each week I would watch the show, hoping, even begging that something better would happen. Nothing did.
There is nothing worse than trying to imitate someone so passionate and driven as Clarkson, or intelligent and talented May, or even annoying and free spirited as Hammond. Maybe I should have auditioned, who knows, it might still be on air. I am far from a good actor/presenter, but I sure would have tried to make it a damn side more interesting than them.
It wasn’t just the guys either, the whole show was half assed, from the music and the cinematography. The track and the cars. No story was particularly different or exciting either.
I’m glad its over. I can go back to watching the real guys doing it properly. Lets hope the American version ends up better, or it’ll end up in the same pitfall all other American shows do. Making the average population that little bit dumber, and wasting everybody’s time.
i think it should be rebooted with the 3 boys nthey had for the last 2 series as they had the best chemistry i liked it even if it was online and thats from an english man
Dear TG,
You guys are GREAT in the UK!!! But clearly it took time to rebuild the brand from early days, and introduce Hammond & May, and then get chemistry
and then start top lark about abit more and become tastfully(!!) funny.
So, in short, Top Gear has had quite a remarkable Evolution over 10 years to a household, even family enjoyed programme.
That’s perhaps why TG Australia seems to have failed. The UK TG episode featuring the 3 TGA guys was good, and they all seemed suited as petrol heads and have fun together (only one episode though!) but….BUT…..
The Lost Episodes…. to a true TG fan here in the UK it looks like a similar setup with some high flying amusing stunts and cool cars (apart from ute’s!!
) BUT exactly that – UK fans will laugh. Other nations/audiences won’t have had the ‘evolution’ to understand the funny AND enjoy it. Also the Peel P50 and other shots are seemingly throwback ideas from UK TG, which seem a little cheap, nothing new and lacks a little imagination.
).
I do enjoy the odd episode on Dave of old TG episodes (circa 2003-05), and sometimes they are blindingly more informatic, informing with light humour, and more ideas and less ‘bombastic’ approach, which somehow manage to capture the passion of cars and motorsport, and everyday life with them. Of course through the TG Evolution, some of this has changed and rightly so (even though some setups are a little cheesy
I guess I’m saying, current TG UK can’t be directly exported as a standard package, it needs tailoring (I’m sure you know this) but it needs the grassroots approach, somehow…
I’d love to give examples, but I the believe Top Gear reinvention worked very successfully with the British public because of our affinity and UNDERSTANDING of cars and the motor industry, and our automotive History and Our PASSION!!
I think i’m right in saying Not all the same could be said for other nations so…. maybe just carry on broadcasting old Top Gear material to the world so they GET the Evolution!!
Love the Show

Wow, marvelous weblog format! How lengthy have you been blogging for? you made running a blog look easy. The whole glance of your web site is fantastic, as well as the content material!
Hi guys i’m sad it went off. it’s much better than TGUS
hope it’ll continue on a different network
jerry, zagreb , croatia
the last 2 seasons where good, they had the formula right. I get the suspicion channel 9 didn’t want to put the coin in to do TopGear properly though
Top gear australia tried to hard. the first series with the pommy bloke in charge was a very poor start.
top gear america is almost very good as they dont try to much to copy the uk version.
uk version is almost non existant these days.
last show was a repeat. 5 th show some repeated sections.
very bad form.
I think it would be great, but it can’t try to be something its not. You can’t match what the poms are up to. You have to make it different so that its not comparing with the poms.
No other top gear will ever be as good as the British one, but in the end we all like to see the cars thrashed that’s why I watch every countries top gear I can find, bring it back.
Well sitting here in England watching Jez and Co give it a go and I found the aussie challange episodes by mistake. Turns out I really enjoyed them. They weren’t trying to be the UK show but were just being… Australian. Really sad to hear the show was cancelled as I looked forward to seeing alot more from the guys.
It was just getting good in Season 4. Before that, the hosts just didn’t gel properly, no chemistry at all. But Ewan, Shane and Steve, I thought, were really good. The show was butchered by Channel 9 long before it was ever canned by them, though. The order of the segments was all wrong, it was too short, it had no budget, all wrong. If channel 9 had given it half a chance, with those 3 hosts, it could have been great. Bring it back!
The problem is obvious to me, channel 9 completely “F*&($D” it up with a ridulous number of ads. On SBS without the ads it was good regardless of whether it was UK AU or US
Channel nine are idiots for cutting Top Gear Australia.
My God !
Lost episodes ?!?!?!?!
Quick, burn them. Burn them ALL!!!!
